Regensburg at the Biennale

Curtain up for Regensburg – Mental Load is coming to the Biennale!

What began as part of the 2024 European Capital of Culture Bad Ischl – Salzkammergut and a collaboration with the University of Applied Arts in Vienna is now culminating in a transnational initiative: an invitation to exhibit at the European Cultural Centre Italy in the Palazzo Mora in Venice as part of the 2026 Venice Biennale. The starting point is the exhibition “Mental Load and Invisible Work,” which will be shown in Bad Ischl in May 2026. A jury for this project has nominated selected artistic works, thereby providing the impetus for the invitation to Venice. Among these outstanding works of art are Regensburg Culture Prize winner Stefan Hanke and Culture Promotion Prize winners Lena Schabus and Dr. Koloman Wagner. They will present their works as part of the 2026 “PERSONAL STRUCTURES” exhibition at Palazzo Mora outside of a competitive format. Together with other international contributions, the works on display reflect the theme of this year’s Biennale, “In Minor Keys,” and engage in a dialogue in Venice with artistic perspectives from around the world. Through these three outstanding artists, Regensburg—alongside the established art and cultural centers of Vienna and the Salzkammergut—is stepping onto the international stage of the art world.
