For centuries, the heart of the Free Imperial City of Regensburg beat in the Old City Hall. The city council and the administration worked here; the court system was located here - with a prison and a court of inquiry in the basement. From 1663 to 1806, the Perpetual Diet was also held here. It brought the great German and European politics and their representatives to Regensburg. The atmosphere of the Imperial Diet can still be felt in the Imperial Hall and the deliberation rooms. Background information on the structure and function of the Reichstag is provided by a permanent exhibition newly designed in 2003.
