From the Krauterers to the Schoppers - Regensburg street names tell the story

Curious street names such as the "Hundsumkehr" or the "Kuhgässchen" tempt many an amateur photographer to take a snapshot in Regensburg. But what stories are hidden behind such names? Sometimes they are centuries old and tell of former market and stacking places, former inns and churches or professions that no longer exist today. Especially in Regensburg, with its large number of medieval streets and alleys, it is worthwhile to go in search of clues...

Did you know, for example, that the former fountain on Arnulfsplatz was moved to the former “New Bohemia”? Or that an Augsburg Fugger had a granary built on Bismarckplatz and that this original memorial plaque from the 16th century can still be discovered today? Or that a truly amusing and wild dispute broke out on Ägidienplatz over its use as a “mule market” and that a building built by the fairytale king Ludwig II stands there today? Let's cross seven bridges ... City walk over Regensburg's bridges

How many bridges does Regensburg have? This multi-faceted city walk takes you across at least seven bridges in the city center. All of these connecting but also dividing structures are full of history, memories and life. The Nazis were forbidden to cross the Iron Bridge in lockstep. Will the Grieser Steg, a symbol of the city's common history between north and south, really be demolished? What is the bizarre connection between the Stone Bridge and the Nibelungen Bridge and why is it the Tyroleans' fault that the Iron Bridge was built so late as a replacement bridge? On an easy walk through the most beautiful natural area of the Wöhrd islands, the present and the future are also the focus of the “Seven Bridges View”.

"In the name of the law!" - Criminal law in olden times

That there is a torture chamber in Regensburg - correctly expressed: an "Fragstatt" - is common knowledge. That it has something to do with the legal system, and in fact with a legal system that is extremely cruel and inhumane by today's standards, is also well known. But how should one really imagine the judicial system in Regensburg in earlier times, from the Middle Ages to the beginning of the 19th century? What punishments were there for what crimes? Is the cliché of the bloodthirsty judiciary true at all? Guilt and atonement, torture and punishment, execution or acquittal: the guided tour traces all this in vivid pictures from the past.
