Neupfarrplatz

There are said to have been 40 houses, including some public buildings, such as the synagogue. The Jewish community had its own administration, seal and judges. The creation of the Neupfarrplatz and the construction of the church are directly related to the expulsion and the immediate demolition of the Jewish quarter in 1519. In the middle of the present square stands the Neupfarrkirche, the construction of which was started immediately after the destruction of the Jewish quarter in 1519, but was stopped again in 1528 due to lack of money. When in 1542 the city council converted to the Evangelical Lutheran denomination, the unfinished church building was used as the city's first Protestant parish church.

During the excavations, large parts of the medieval cellars of the Jewish quarter were uncovered and, among other things, a gold treasure from the 14th century with 624 gold coins and a finger ring with the seal of the Jewish community were found. Today you can descend into the document Neupfarrplatz and visit three of these Jewish cellar rooms, 2,000-year-old legionary camp wall remains and remains of a ring bunker from the Nazi era as part of a guided tour.
