New synagogue
The new synagogue was opened on February 27, 2019. Exactly 500 years after the Regensburg council expelled its Jewish population from the city in February 1519. The Jewish quarter, including the synagogue, was completely destroyed. Jewish life only returned to Regensburg in the 18th century.

In 1912, a new synagogue ‘Am Brixener Hof 2’ was built and only 26 years later it was set on fire and completely destroyed during the Reichspogromnacht on November 9, 1938. 80 years later, a new “new synagogue” was built in Regensburg. A modern building that enriches the old town. The main entrance leads through a small inner courtyard. A gold-colored ribbon of lettering floats above it in the open air. A closer look reveals a poem by the Jewish poet Rose Ausländer. Lines from her poem ‘Together’ have been immortalized in her handwriting in the work of art. The Jewish community in Regensburg is the oldest in Bavaria and has grown strongly again in the last 20 years.
