Natural history museum of eastern bavaria

Regensburg lies at the intersection of four different landscape units. The exhibitions of the Natural History Museum, housed since 1961 in the classicist Herzogspalais at Herzogspark, illuminate the geological origins and the modern situation of the region of Eastern Bavaria.

As with an elevator, the visitor measures through the natural area with rocks, soils, minerals, the successive habitats over many millions of years up to the appearance of man and up to the present biotopes of forest, rock, wetlands and water. Especially worth seeing:

The history room is a replica of a natural history cabinet, with a wooden library from 1790. The presentation is interactive, didactically prepared and also includes living examples (small animals, bee colony). Many educational activities are aimed at schools, while reading and play stations are especially designed for families with children. With a pond and immengarten as a small "outdoor laboratory" and a geological nature trail, the theme is continued in the adjacent Herzogspark. Further offers: Environmental education projects, changing nature and art exhibitions, and concerts.
